As one of our vision goals for the next few years, digital learning is certainly a priority at TIS! We have reviewed our technology standards and have adopted the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) standards. Our focus is to ensure that students have the 21st Century skills needed to meet the work force requirements demanded by many organizations today and into the future. At TIS we have a BYOAD (Bring Your Own Apple Device) program starting at P3 and the MYDP program. Students are asked to bring their own iPad in P3 and their own MacBook in MYDP classes so they can learn the essential skills of technology and design. TIS also has an IT lab of 25 desktop computers for teachers to book for students to develop essential technology, research and collaboration skills. Each class has a projector and doc camera to aid in the development of these skills. Also TIS has an Acceptable Use Agreement which guides students as to what is acceptable when using digital devices and social networking.
In PYP students have access to iPads starting in EY4. Students learn to use Apps for learning and to use the iPad as a learning tool for research, communication and problem solving. A Technology integrator is available to help teachers plan technology lessons that integrate with units being taught. Students become digital learners and use technology in authentic learning environments that encourages collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and design.
In DP students have the option to continue developing their digital skills by choosing ITGS (Information Technology in a Global Society):
The IB Diploma Programme information technology in a global society (ITGS) course is the study and evaluation of the impacts of information technology (IT) on individuals and society. It explores the advantages and disadvantages of the access and use of digitized information at the local and global level. ITGS provides a framework for the student to make informed judgments and decisions about the use of IT within social contexts. (ITGS Guide 2012)
