We currently have 30 teachers employed at TIS, 5 local teachers and 25 international teachers from the USA, Canada, Africa, New Zealand, Britain and Korea. All teachers are certified teachers in their subject area and 50 % of the teachers hold a Master’s degree.
We require that international teachers have at least two years experience before being hired by TIS and need to be certified in their field. Teachers once hired received training in IB within their first year at TIS but TIS makes every effort to hire teachers who have IB training.

Ms. Kira Botton
P1 Teacher

Kira is from Louisiana and Colorado, USA. She has her BA in Elementary Education and has been teaching for 10 years. Kira is very excited to be joining us after spending the past three years in Gwangju, South Korea. She will be teaching P3 this year. In her free time, she enjoys biking, swimming, traveling, and reading.

Mr. Yoon Choi
Korean Language and MYP Math


BEd in Primary Education, BS in Mathematics, MEd in English Education with teaching certifications in Primary education and Secondary Math
Yoon Choi is from Seoul, Korea. He lived in Seoul, Qingdao, Wisconsin, and Ulaanbaatar before he came back to China for teaching. He has teaching licenses from Korea, Wisconsin, and he is also a registered teacher in New Zealand. He has two children in MYP and DP at TIS. He seeks a simple life as he does a meditation from time to time.

Mr. Parfait Habarugira    
MYP Maths, DP Mathematics HL, DP Physics Teacher


MSc Food Science, BSc in Chemistry, Teaching Licence

Parfait is from Burundi. He holds an MSc in Food Science from Wuxi Jiangnan University. He began teaching high school science (chemistry) and middle school mathematics in Burundi in 1993. In 1995, he became Adviser and Counselor to BEPES (Bureau d’Etudes des Programmes de l’Enseignement Secondaire) in the Chemistry Department. He joined Taihu International School in September 2001 to teach mathematics and sciences. He has attended many IB workshops for PYP, MYP and DP and was involved in preparing the authorization for all three programs, plus the school’s accreditation by CIS, WASC and NCCT. He is currently IB examiner. He recently took part in CIS and NCCT visiting team workshop in Beijing. He completed training for Teaching ESL Students in the Mainstream Classroom. He is currently teaching MYP and DP mathematics and DP physics.

Ms. Chrissy Herring
KG Teacher


BA in Elementary Education
Chrissy is from Auckland, New Zealand. She earned her B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Otago. She joins us from an American school in North Carolina where she taught grade 2 as an international faculty. She will be teaching KG at TIS and she looks forward to a great academic school year. In her spare time Chrissy loves playing ukulele, riding her bike and exploring new places through travel.

Mr. Douglas Horton
MYP English Language Acquisition and Individuals and Societies


Bachelor of Education in Elementary, Intermediate and Senior English and Social Studies.

Douglas Horton is from Ontario, Canada.  He got his teaching degree from St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, as well as supplementary upgrades from the University of Ottawa.  Douglas taught for two years in Ontario, teaching children from grades 5 to 8.  However, for twelve years he taught in arctic Quebec, working with the Inuit.  Teaching the Inuit gave Douglas great experience dealing with children whose second language is English.  As an extra-curricular activity he taught students guitar; something he will enjoy doing with the students here at TIS.  Furthermore, Douglas loves to travel and learn about new places.  Last year was his first year at Wuxi Taihu International School and he enjoyed it greatly.  He is looking forward to another great year with some great classes.

Ms. Judy Imamudeen

Bachelor of Science, Biology; Master’s of Education, Elementary Education
Judy is originally from America, but has lived in Eastern Europe, South America, and most recently the Middle East.  She has been teaching for over 14 years and is highly qualified early childhood educator. She is also certified in structured English immersion and gifted education.  As an energetic and patient teacher, she enjoys creating a warm and engaging classroom where students feel challenged and appreciated.  She is married with a young daughter who attends TIS, and during her free time she enjoys Tai Chi, being out in nature, biking and dancing.

Ms. Michelle Jacobson

Hi, I am Michelle Jacobson this is my 15th year in education and my first year in administration.   I have taught for 3 years in China, 6 years in Wisconsin and 5 years in Los Angles.   Of those years, 7 have been in the IB.  I am super excited to do bring that experience to TIS.  My education includes a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction and BA in English Literature.  Outside of school, my son and I love to travel, ride our bikes, and eating cheesecake.   I love reading, film and I'm somewhat of a foodie.  Look forward to meeting everyone and being a part of  TIS.

Mr.  Matthew Kirk

Matthew Kirk is from Nottinghamshire in the United Kingdom, the area famous for Robin Hood. He has qualifications from the University of Sheffield and Manchester Metropolitan University, both in the the UK. Matthew is now entering his 15th year as a committed and enthusiastic Middle and High School Science teacher. He has taught in state schools in the UK and International Schools in Dubai (UAE), Hanoi (Vietnam) and now Wuxi, China. His hobbies and interests include Wing Chun, Chess and reading, as well as attempting to improve his Mandarin language skills.

Ms. Cordelia Kouevi

Cordelia has teaching qualifications for German and Music. Originally from Germany she has worked many years in international schools in West Africa. During her long teaching career she has upgraded her teaching skills in German as a foreign language, P.E., IB Language B and research skills. Through internal tutoring she is also capable of teaching ESL and French as a foreign language (GCSE and IB Ab Initio level). For six years she taught German at a French Lycee and was examiner for the French Baccalaureate. In her free time she likes dancing and listening to music of all kinds.

Ms. Jessica Lee
Korean Liaison Officer


Master degree in Physics
Jessica is from South Korea and has six years of a research assistant and teaching experiences at a university in Korea.She is currently translating English and Chinese for the Korean students and parents. She is an assistant in science and Korean language class.

Ms. Lucky Li
Mandarin Teacher


BEd in English, Diploma for Kindergarten Teaching, Teaching Certificate
Lucky has thirt years experience as a kindergarten teacher. Before coming to Taihu in 2008, Lucky was teaching in a Chinese local kindergarten for eight years. She has a Bachelors degree in English Education and an Elementary School Teaching Certificate. Lucky plays piano and is very creative and flexible. She works with other teachers and assistants cooperatively in her classroom. She always adopts a variety of teaching strategies and methods to help her students learn happily and effectively. This is her fifth year teaching EY3 at TIS.

Ms. Bridget Mutasa

Visual Art teacher


Bridget is from Zimbabwe.  She obtained her teaching degree from the University of South Africa, her Honors degree in South Africa and her PGCPE (Post Graduate Certificate for Professional Studies in Education) from the London Open University. For the past 18 years, she has taught in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi. She is looking forward to use her experience in Visual Art as a teacher and an IB Visual Art examiner.  She has attended several MYP and DP professional development workshops and completed ESL in the Mainstream training.  In her free time she loves to explore cultures, listening to music and dancing.

Mr. Tonderai Mutasa
Design Teacher/MYP Coordinator/Technology Inegrator


Tonderai is from Zimbabwe. He obtained his teaching degree from the University of South Africa and his PGCPE (Post Graduate Certificate for Professional Studies in Education) from the London Open University. For the past 19 years, he has taught in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi for 19 years. He is looking forward to using his experience expanding Design Departments to develop our curriculum at TIS. He attended several MYP and DP Design and ITGS courses and completed ESL in the Mainstream training.  He has successfully coached basketball teams at both high school and club level.

Ms. Beth Overby
P5 Teacher


B.A. in Elementary Education
Ms. Overby is from North Carolina, USA. She has taught in USA, Egypt, China, and Bangladesh. This is her second year teaching P5, and she loves it because her students have such interesting discussions and ideas. Ms. O loves reading, traveling, eating delicious foods, and Dolly Parton. She does not like being sick, mushrooms, or bad hair days.

Mr. Alan Qian

BSc in Computer Sciences

Alan attended Jiangsu Science and Technology University and graduated in June 2010. His major was in computer science and technology. He joined Taihu in 2010 as an assistant librarian and has made a big difference to the daily running of the library.

Mr. George Salmon


George Salmon is from the UK but is half English, half French. He gained his undergraduate degree in Politics from the University of Sussex and then his Postgraduate Certificate of Education in History from the University of Exeter. He is entering his 11th year of teaching and has been teaching the IB for the last 9 of those. This is also his 8th year of teaching in China after having spent 7 years in Xiamen, which he recommends as a great place for a weekend trip. His Chinese is still not very good, however. If not in the classroom he’s either reading or out on his bike, and he’s looking forward to discovering more of Wuxi.

Mr. Perry Sein

Perry earned his Master of Arts degree in Education from the Azusa Pacific University, California. His Bachelor of Arts degree in English is from the California State University, Northridge. He earned his Clear Teaching Credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Perry is a graduate of International School Counselor Program from Counselor Training Center (CTC) in Miami, Florida. Perry studied Economics and Business Law in a Study Abroad Program in London and he holds a Certificate of Law from Santa Monica Professional Institute and he was a licensed real estate investor in California. He is a Certified Language Proficiency Examiner from the American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), White Plains, New York. He is a member of OACAC (Overseas Association of College Admission Counseling.) Perry is from Riverside, California. He began his teaching in California in 1999. Perry enjoys walking with his wife, playing guitar and reading.

Ms. Stacey Stoltz

Stacey Stoltz is from Chicago, Illinois. Her most recent posting was PYP music at the American International School of Kuwait. She earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Education and Percussion Performance with an emphasis in World Music at Lawrence Conservatory of music in Appleton, Wisconsin. Stacey loves sharing music with others, and is excited to join the TIS team. In her spare time Stacey enjoys reading, cooking, being outside and traveling.

Ms. Triphonie Sibomana

MSc in Computer Science, BSc in Earth Science, Teaching Certificate

Triphonie holds a MSc in Computer Science from Wuxi Jiangnan University. She taught high school Geography in Burundi since 1996. In 1999, she became Adviser and Counselor to the Vice-President of Republic in Information department. After post graduation in 2003, she worked for three foreign Companies in Wuxi as a Networks and Systems Administrator before joining Taihu International School since April 2007 as Network system manager. She attended multiple internal IB workshops for PYP and MYP. She recently completed training on Teaching ESL students in mainstream classrooms and is currently teaching PYP and MYP French. Triphonie is fluent in French, English, Mandarin, and her native Kirundi.

Ms. Tan Wei

Wei has a Masters degree in Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language and Bachelors degree in Chinese language and literature and a high school teaching qualification. Wei has fourteen years of teaching experience. Before joining Taihu International School in 2009, Wei taught Chinese in a local school for eleven years. She has experience teaching students of different age groups from primary to high school. She is familiar with the Chinese National Curriculum. She also has a rich knowledge of Chinese linguistics and literature. At Taihu International school, she has received PYP, MYP training and completed TESMC, an ESL in the Mainstream program, in 2011. Wei enjoys learning and sharing together with her students.

Ms. Grace Wu

Grace has a Bachelors degree in teaching Mandarin to foreigners and is a fully qualified Mandarin teacher. Grace is in her seventh year at our school and has received PYP and MYP training and completed TESMC, an ESL in the Mainstream program. She has been in charge of the student council for 3 years and has lead the students to organize many different activities in school. She always adopts a variety of teaching strategies and methods to help her students learn happily and effectively. This year, she will be more focused on the PYP Mandarin teaching.

Michael has been teaching since 1986 and has been a Chinese language teacher at Taihu since 2001. Michael has a Bachelor Degree of Literature in teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language from Beijing Language and Culture University(BLCU) and has two Higher National Diplomas in Business English and in Engineering from Jiangsu University. He has a Senior Chinese Language Teacher Certificate from the International Profession Certification Association (IPA) and a China Second-Grade Instructor Teaching Certificate in Mechanical Engineering. Michael has received PYP, MYP training and completed TESMC, an ESL in the Mainstream program. He has rich experiences in teaching all levels of Mandarin to native speakers and foreigners.

Ms. Yan Yan

Yan Yan joined us this year from Jiangnan University in Wuxi. She graduated from Xi’an PE University with a Bachelors Degree and majored in PE education. She is a fully qualified PE teacher with eight years teaching experience. She is a qualified referee in athletics, basketball and volleyball. Yan Yan is also a national rank two athlete in gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics, a national level fitness instructor and a senior yoga teacher.

Rong joined TIS in 2015! She completed her MEd. degree emphasize on Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language from the University of Hong Kong and BA. in Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language from Sichuan University. She holds a high school teaching qualification and a certificate as HSK investigator.  She has received PYP, MYP and DP training and is growing to be a full qualified IB teacher. This year,she will foucus on the PYP Mandarin teaching and English Language Learning(ELL). She is willing to apply the best  way of teaching and learning according to her students’ needs and level.

MA in Linguistics and Teaching Foreigners Chinese, BA International Studies, CET 6      
Wendy has a Master’s degree in teaching Mandarin to foreigners and a Bachelor’s degree in Mandarin studies. Wendy has taught Mandarin learners of all levels and ages. Wendy is in her fourth year at our school. Wendy has also taught HSK Mandarin exam preparation to some of our senior students.
